Ruby spent his early days on the lam roaming the mean streets of Grafton, WV. When he was caught, he was charged with a Class D Misdogmeanor: Failure to be a good hunting dog. As part of a plea deal, he was extradited to a rescue called Buddy Dog, in a frozen tundra known as New England. It was there that he rescued two humans, assumed a girl’s name, and never looked back.
In 2008, Ruby spent seven days in the hospital near death with diabetic ketoacidosis. He lived with canine diabetes for the rest of his life, almost eight years, and through his blogging has helped countless friends around the world with his diabetic dog food recipe, Ruby Stewbie.
In 2013, he convinced his humans to move south to the warm weather and beautiful coast of North Carolina. He was always a southern charmer, after all, and his blue heeler blood was homesick. He enjoyed every single moment of his retirement. It was filled with all the finer things in life: walks on the beach, napping, getting belly rubs, and giving sweet kisses.
On May 4th, 2016, Ruby passed peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his pack. He lived 14 glorious years thanks to someone who picked him up and drove him far away, to a no-kill shelter, and into the arms of love. He remained a lover, not a hunter.

The 2016 Website Winner
Southport-Oak Island Animal Rescue
The inaugural recipient of the Friends Of Ruby Award, Southport-Oak Island Animal Rescue (SOAR) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, no-kill animal rescue for dogs and cats based out of Southeastern North Carolina.
Fresh off a fundraising initiative that kept their doors from closing, SOAR’s three acres of property provide a safe, and hopefully temporary, home for cats and dogs. Unique to this rescue are two additional houses specifically for cats living with FeLV (feline leukemia virus) and FIV (feline immnunodeficiency virus).
Now settled into their new online home, SOAR reports the freshly reorganized content and responsive website design make it easier for folks to locate their next best friend.
About the Contest
Early on in his blogging career, Ruby caught wind of the power of the Internet. He spoke mainly through haiku, and pictures where his mom dressed him up in silly costumes. He truly loved his global pack.
Through this contest, it continues to grow in his honor.

Design & Development
As part of the website design process, MyUntangled Media will work with your organization’s liaison to collect permissions and collateral before beginning your site redesign. Once they have everything, the MyUntangled design team can proceed to take your organization’s site to the next level. Please take a look at some other examples of their work.
Hosting & Maintenance
After launch, you’ll never have to worry about anything again. Your organization’s website will be live on a fast and optimized hosting server. Every month, software updates and patches will be applied, if applicable, and monthly backups will be cataloged. Your domain will be renewed yearly and if your ongoing content needs go beyond the training provided, the MyUntangled Media team will be available as needed.
